Solid Oxide Fuel Cell - SOFC - Company History and Overview

In 1994, Acumentrics was founded as a manufacturer of custom power products. The company quickly became an industry leader in rugged AC and DC uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) for military and industrial power conditioning and backup. Our RuggedUPS products are trusted in punishing environments found in war, heavy industry, and transportation.

In 2000, the company expanded into power generation by acquiring intellectual property for an innovative tubular solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) design. Acumentrics improved the technology in “stealth mode” for over five years. Internal development has made the fuel cells 60X more effective. Presently the company sells fuel cell power generators in the 1-10kW range to qualified customers and partners. They are used for silent, standalone generation and combined heat and power.

Our fuel cells offer significant advantages over traditional engine- and turbine-powered generators: no compression/combustion cycles, no moving parts, minimal ongoing maintenance, and negligible levels of pollutants. The company’s patented tubular solid oxide fuel cell design offers efficiency and operational advantages over competing fuel cell and power solutions for commercial, industrial, residential, and communications uses.

In 2007, Acumentrics acquired substantially all of the assets and employees of Fuel Cell Technology Limited of Ontario, Canada. Their balance-of-plant expertise enhances our system design.

Our corporate, administrative, research, development and engineering headquarters are in Westwood, Massachusetts. Acumentrics has manufacturing facilities in Westwood, Massachusetts, USA; and Kingston, Ontario, Canada. The company serves its customers directly and through distributors and resellers.

Building on its strong experience in power electronics, Acumentrics has developed a new line of proprietary solid oxide fuel cell systems designed for highly efficient and clean standalone or backup power.
