Acumentrics Triples Manufacturing Capability

WESTWOOD, Mass., January 9, 2007 – Acumentrics Corporation, a leading developer of solid-oxide fuel cells and uninterruptible power supplies for the distributed generation market, announced today that it tripled its capacity for building its rugged uninterruptible power supplies (UPS).

Acumentrics achieved this increase by reconfiguring its existing factory floor and implementing lean manufacturing. There was no increase in labor. With this new blueprint, the factory can easily be scaled to support demand up to $60M in rugged UPS sales. Moreover, lead-time has been reduced to 4 weeks or less, while maintaining the ability to customize the rugged UPS to meet challenging customer applications.

“Our workforce feels proud to provide such a reliable UPS to our soldiers on the front lines. We are very motivated to continuously improve our manufacturing operations to maintain our 99% on-time delivery performance,” said Ersson H. Zapata, VP Operations.

Acumentrics has 10 years’ experience making and selling rugged power supply and conditioning units for harsh environments. It leads the industry in the ability to take a wide voltage range with high frequency variance, and generate clean, conditioned AC or DC power, while withstanding the worst conditions. Its unique FlowThrough design maximizes internal cooling while sealing electronic components from the damaging effects of moisture, dust, and other contaminants.

“With the growing popularity of our rugged UPS products, we needed a major capacity increase,” said Gary Simon, President and CEO. “Our remarkable production team found a way to do this very economically and with minimal upset to our flow of products.”

Over the past decade, the Company has sold over 40,000 rugged UPS units. Customers include all branches of the U.S. military, the oil and gas industry, city subway systems, and critical water facilities. Acumentrics’ rugged UPS products work in extreme heat and cold, in wet and dry conditions, after severe shaking and shock, and even in blowing dirt and sand. Acumentrics has also developed a unique, durable, fuel-flexible fuel cell technology. Thirty of their fuel cell generators, ranging from 1-10 kilowatts in size, have been shipped and started in the field. More information can be found at www.acumentrics.com.
