Global Cooperation

Many countries are pursuing the “hydrogen economy”. Click here to see the International Partnership for the Hydrogen Economy website.

United States:

In his 2003 State of the Union address, President Bush announced a $1.2 billion hydrogen initiative to reverse America’s growing dependence on foreign oil and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The President urged the development of commercially viable hydrogen fuels and technologies for cars, trucks, homes, and businesses.

United Kingdom:

The UK government has promised to cut the country’s carbon emissions by 60 per cent by 2050. Click here to read the Hydrogen Energy Strategic Framework for the UK. The country also maintains a Sustainable Energy Policy and Energy Efficiency Commitment.

Germany

Germany is committed to fuel cells too. Click here for an interesting article.

China

What about China? China has been working on fuel cells for over 30 years. (Remember, fuel cells are fairly old technology and were used in US rockets in the 1960’s.) They continue to fund various clean energy initiatives, although it is hard to say in what amount. Here is a more recent article about a fuel cell bus.
