Acumentrics’ AHEAD: Residential Fuel Cell Heat & Power System
Think AHEAD:
Distributed Power Generation for Homeowners
Imagine a furnace that makes electricity, too. The Acumentrics AHEAD (click on link for specifications) is just that. The AHEAD uses fuel cells to generate heat and power for the home, with peak demands being handled by the grid or batteries. It runs off municipal gas or propane. This combined-heat-and-power unit (micro-CHP) can even meter excess electricity back to the grid. On-site generation has never been more clean, quiet, or secure.
Not yet sold for general availability; evaluations for qualified partners only.

Now homeowners can increase their security while reducing their environmental impact. Our residential fuel cell units provide heat and electricity even when the grid is down. Internal scrubbers remove sulfur and nitric oxide emission from the fuel-cell exhaust. Electrochemical efficiencies lead to significantly less CO2 emissions. Steady, ready electrical output leverages 12 years of Acumentrics’ power conditioning experience. Our electrical inverters can also be connected to solar or wind power for hybrid electricity. Batteries are used for start and stop, and to augment during peak demand.
This revolutionary power system contains an array of solid-state tubes, for elegant yet robust power. It silently creates electricity electrochemically, by the migration of oxygen ions through a semi-permeable ceramic structure, instead of through compression/ combustion. No expensive hydrogen is required; it operates directly from propane or natural gas as well as hydrogen.
The AHEAD also contains a state-of-the-art hydronic boiler capable of supplying heat for an average home. This hydronic system captures excess energy from the hot fuel cells, and augments peak thermal loads with a clean, high-efficiency burner.
